Home Improvements

Mike has a pretty long list of thing he wants to do on the house. In the last couple of months he has been busy getting some things checked off of his/my list.
The laundry room was at the top of the list.
He put up some extra hooks so we don't have jackets, coats and snow things strewn about.

He gave me a tall cupboard for laundry baskets and extra storage, a shelf, a hanging bar, and more storage! Now the kids each have their own hook and a cubby, so they should never need to leave anything laying on the ground! Apparently they have far too many jackets and coats, because we still get jackets and backpacks on the ground!
I can tell you I have been much better at getting the laundry washed, dried, and folded. I work better when things are more organized.
I hate doing laundry, but I love my new laundry room.
The next project was our bedroom. In all the houses we have lived in we have never really decorated our bedroom. In Hooper we hung a couple of pictures so it looked better when we listed it to sell it. I have hated our bedspread since we bought it when we got married. So it was time for a new one.
It is amazing what a couple things on the wall and a new bedspread will do to a room! I love it, and I love my cute kids that like to play on a newly made bed.
Mike also finished the upstairs bathroom, and built a fire pit that we won't be able to use for a while, (that is a long different story) but I don't have pictures of those.
He also started framing the basement this last week, for the kids bedroom.
Mike is amazing!

Jaycee's Room Makeover

Before I start with Jaycee's room I have one more picture of Wesley's.  Now his room is all done except for one wall...I'm thinking of doing his name and a 11x14 picture of him. We'll see.
I've been wanting to decorate Jaycee's room for a long time.  I knew exactly what I wanted. Jaycee didn't exactly agree with me, so I did end up changing the bedding I was going to get.  It still matched with the other things I wanted to do and it is her room after all.  She has been begging for an owl bed.  So that's what we did.  Here are a couple before pictures.  We really hadn't done much but hang her name and the cross stitched fairies.

Here's the bed Mike made right after I painted it.  The night stand is one I had when I was little, just added a little paint.
And the finished project.

It turned out better then I had imagined and Jaycee loves it!
I painted the bigger tree.  The smaller tree and all the owls and other things are stickers.  I got them at Target, so worth the money.  They were easy to put up and the best thing about them is you can remove them and put them somewhere else easy.  Not like vinyl.
Now the only room I have let is mine.  I have found several things I want for it, either they were to expensive or I couldn't fit it in my car to bring home. In California at Old San Diego there was a guy selling watercolors with dried flowers in old frames.  They were beautiful but big and our car was already really stuffed! I'm so sad I wasn't able to get one, they were a really good deal too! :(  If he had been in Utah I would have bought several.

Remodeling part II

As promised, here are some more of our remodeling pictures. The first couple are of Jaycee's room, which Mike finished just before she came.

It got a new paint job and new molding, crown included. Then I painted the wood flowers, butterflies and hearts.

My sister Joy (with the help of Jaime) surprised me with her name when I got home. I knew she was working on it, I didn't know it was done. They put it up while I was at the hospital. Our house gets super hot in the summer. I remember people telling me how hot it was, so I was glad to be in the nice air conditioned hospital. Anyway when they came over to put it up the power had gone out, so they couldn't turn on the swamp cooler and it was very dark. So they got it put up in candle light, because at the time we didn't have flashlights. So kudos to my wonderful sisters!

Now on to the Basement. We realized we had a leak when I went to do laundry and at the bottom of the stairs was soaking wet!! So Mike and his dad went to work, they found we had a pretty good sized crack in our foundation.

Not long after that I moved a coffee table I had pushed up against the wall under this window to find that it was all moldy. So when Mike tore this wall apart we found a pipe coming into the house which wasn't sealed. So we had water coming in there also.

And now for the after pictures. When we started we had no idea that we would be doing the whole basement. It just ended up this way. Which we are glad of now, at the time it was a pain. We really enjoy it now. It's nice to have everything nice and new. So here is the new kitchen downstairs. Oh ya....the basement also got new french doors, and all new windows.

The only thing that stayed was this brick wall and the fireplace. The basement got new molding, lighting, wiring, plumbing, windows, doors, cupboards, sink, counter tops and tile.

So part III will have to be our room which Mike just finished and the bathroom. I'm having a hard time finding my pictures of the bathroom. I remember taking them, now I just have to find them.:) Now we have the inside all done. If only the outside looked as nice as the inside!! Does it ever end??

Remodeling

Well, we've been doing some remodeling, and I never posted any pictures. Mike has done such a good job on our house so now I'm going to post some of his wonderful work:) And I'm working backwards. The Living room was his last project, then the kitchen. Later I'll post the bathroom, Jaycee's room and the basement.

Notice the molding around the window's and the floor is gone.

I did help a little with the painting. I'm not completely useless:)

The finished living room. I'd been bugging Mike for a shelf forever. He did such a good job!

Now we have nice new moldings!

Now onto the kitchen/hallway. He started off tiling, which we ran all the way down the hallway. The hallway carpet was always dirty!!

Jaycee was so tired of living in a dusty dirty house, she took matters into her own hands.

She even got to help a little with them demo in the kitchen. She followed Mike around, whenever I would let her, coping everything he did. She is such a daddy's girl.

In these pictures, the tile is done and the walls are just waiting for their turn.

The finished kitchen. Only that wall is blue, the rest are the same color as the living room. I failed to take pictures of the rest. Probably because it is never clean enough to take pictures of...

That it for now. Like I said he has done such a good job! Now he's ready to build us a whole new house...right? Now he has fixed every room in the house except for our room, and I think he's planning on doing it within the next month or so. So if you know anyone looking to buy a house send them our way. Our house is practically new now...and we'll give you a good deal:)

Remodeling

Well, it's decided, I am not a very good blogger. My life just isn't that interesting. We don't ever really do anything exciting. Right now we are just working on our house. We decided to tile the kitchen floor and the hallway. If you know us we can't just stop there. So now we have the moldings all riped off, and our house is a mess. Just waiting to be painted. Well first we have to get rid of tall the cracks and dents that come with an old house. Anyway that's what we've been up to. Not real exciting. I'll have to post some pictures so you can see what We've (Mike) has been up to. Me and Jaycee mainly just watch. Jaycee loves to help out when we let her. We give her a scrapper and she goes to town with it. She follows Mike around copying everything he does. It's pretty cute, until she starts pulling on the paint, making big holes in the walls which Mike then has to fill with mud. Ahh the fun of remodeling!!
