Alaska Day 7 & 8-At Sea, and Home

Our last day was at sea. We played some games, and ate a fancy dinner. We went to the shows every night, except this night. Guess what? We woke up not feeling the best.😞
We ate a light breakfast before getting off the ship.
As we were getting off the ship there were people coming on to clean in hazmat suits!
It was the real deal.
We started to really feel sick at the airport. We bought some Pepto and some sprite and powered through.
The funniest thing, we ran into Joy and Sawyer at the airport. They just got back from Japan.

Luckily we were able to make it home before we really went downhill.
We quarantined ourselves to our room when we got home, we didn't want to get the kids sick.
I am so grateful we were able to enjoy the cruise, and for soft toilet paper (tmi), and medicine! I feel terrible for those that were sick on the ship, because this is the worst! I told Mike I would have made them helicopter me off the ship!
It was reported that 168 passengers and 5 crew members were sick. I would say at least double those numbers!
About a week after we got home we saw in the news that our ship had a salmonella outbreak! Not Nora Virus as we expected. So technically we didn't need to quarantine ourselves away...oh well.

Alaska Day 6-Ketchikan

Everyday I wake up scared to get out of bed, sure today's the day the sickness gets me!
I survived another day!
Today we decided to do the Deer Mountain trail hike.
This hike was no joke!

I tried to get everyone to turn around at this lookout that was a mile in. Nobody wanted to turn around, so we hiked on.

It really was a beautiful hike, I am glad we made it to the top. My knees are a little mad at me.

A total of 4.8 miles with a 2000 foot elevation gain!
It was foggy at the top. We had to wait a little bit, then we were able to see our ship from the top.
By the time we got back to the road I could barely walk, and the road back to town was the hardest! It was so steep. My joints are no good.
We walked down Creek Steet and then went to a lumberjack show.

Overall a good day. Not sure if I will be able to move tomorrow. Everyone in our group made it to the lumberjack show!

Alaska Day 5-Juneau

Today Jaime was feeling good enough to join us, the others are still down, like I said even more are sick today!

We rode a city bus for a while, then we hiked to Mendenhall glacier and Nugget Falls.
Can you spot the bigfoot?
It was another beautiful amazing day!
The world really is amazing!

Cynthia made it off the boat to try some crab, which they say was amazing. Matt also got off the boat for a bit, just long enough to buy some Pepto, but was not up for the long walk. Matt said the worker at the store was nervous about all the people buying medicine!
This port had the best prices for souvenirs.

Alaska Day 4-Hoonah/Icy Straight

We lost a few more people to sickness today. Matt and Jaime were up all night sick, Cynthia and Abbie were still down.😟
The rest of us walked into Hoonah.
The walk there was beautiful!
Again, so green and waterfalls everywhere.
We saw a bald eagle and a couple of deer.

We rode a gondola and hiked a little loop.
As we were getting back on the ship Jaime ventured out and her and Abbie did the little loop again.

I feel terrible for those that are sick, and they aren't the only ones. It seems like every group of people we hear talking has sick people in their group.
We are starting to see a lot of food trays outside of the cabin doors with just rice, bananas, and toast.
