CANCER

We found out a month or so ago that my mom has cancer.  Plasma cell myeloma is what it's called, basically it makes tumors that grow in/on her bones and breaks them. It is incurable and life expectancy is 2-10 years.  They are hoping, with her being younger then the normal person that gets this cancer, that they will be able to treat her more aggressively. This type of cancer is rare and usually causes kidney failure.
In November she was having rib pain but couldn't remember doing anything to hurt them. Theirs not much you can do for a broken rib but give it time, and so she did.  In February when it was still hurting her they did an x-ray and found that she had two tumors. So this is how we found out she had cancer.  After a lot of tests and scans they found that she has tumors from her head down to her feet.
She started Chemo on May 17th and because she has so many health problems (tracheotomy, acid reflex stuff) she has to stay in the hospital so they can monitor her carefully.  It's hard because she is at the U of U hospital, kind of far away, and we all have kids that can't go to the hospital.  So I've only been to see her twice.  We take turns watching each others kids so we all get the chance to be with her.  She's been doing fairly well, they have her pretty drugged up. She's hoping they will let her come home in the next week or two for about a week, then she'll have to go back for stem cell injections and more chemo. Yuck!
She has had the best outlook and has been really positive. I think she's just happy to finally know what is wrong with her.  She's been in so much pain for so long.
Anyway, cancer sucks!

Chelsea I'm heartbroken to hear that your mom too is battling cancer. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers just like you have done for my own mother. I pray that she gets well and that she continues to have faith and stays so positive.

My mom was told that she may not be curred because of the stage her cancer was found, but yesterday the doctor told her he can't believe how great she is doing. He thinks she might actually be in remission. We won't know for a few more weeks if this is true. But we are hopeful and praying so hard right now.

Cancer truly sucks and it sucks when it happens to your family. Know that we are here for you. We love you guys.

OH my word!! I didn't know this was happening. I can watch your kids for you one day so you can go be with her. I would love to do that. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
